Hebei Building Science Research Centre Project

The government of Hebei Province and the Government of British Columbia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on July 8, 2010 to build a cooperative wood frame demonstration project in the capital of Shijiazhuang. The 5,500 square meter research centre is a 1+3 hybrid concrete and wood structure that uses light wood frame, glulam and other engineered wood products.

Completed in early 2012, the Hebei Research Centre is now home to a number of Hebei provincial agencies. The centre is currently used as a base of research on the technical applications of low-carbon, energy-efficient building technologies, and on the development of code and design standards for wood-frame construction in China.

The centre also hosts a number of WFC seminars and events such as, low-carbon building technical seminars, technical promotion activities, and Canada Wood College trainings.

FII China worked with Canada Wood China and local architects with design development, site supervision and building quality assurance. The long-standing collaboration between FII China and the government of Hebei shows the commitment both organizations have in promoting sustainable urban development.
