Partnering with FII Vietnam, Happy Furniture has introduced a new line made from western hemlock, emphasizing a shift towards sustainable practices in furniture manufacturing
Happy Furniture, an established Vietnamese manufacturer of ready-to-assemble furniture, has worked with FII Vietnam to craft a new line of mid-to-high-end furnishings using western hemlock. This collaborative effort has resulted in the successful design and manufacturing of a display set, featuring a console table, coffee table, and end table. These pieces are currently featured in the company’s showroom.
Since 2020, Happy Furniture has been an active participant in FII Vietnam’s educational programs, engaging in seminars focused on British Columbia’s unique wood species. Happy Furniture then joined the “Try Canadian Wood” program, where FII Vietnam provided a limited quantity of wood to support the development of new furniture designs. The FII team also offered guidance on the distinctive characteristics of western hemlock and optimal design and production techniques to accentuate the inherent beauty of the wood. This collaboration extended to the introduction of Happy Furniture to BC suppliers during a mission to the Vietnam market. On September 18, 2023, a BC delegation toured Happy Furniture’s manufacturing facility and learned more about the company’s business plans and interest in softwood lumber products.
Happy Furniture recently created a collection of no-tool, ready-to-assemble display set that showcases the beauty and versatility of western hemlock. The mix of vertical grain and flat grain hemlock represents a shift from radiata pine to a sustainably sourced BC wood.
Happy Furniture is set to present this collection at North America’s largest furniture tradeshow, High Point Market, in High Point, North Carolina from April 13-17. Looking ahead, the company plans to broaden its product range by incorporating more mid-to-high-end furniture designs using hemlock in place of radiata pine. The expansion begins with a trial of bedroom furniture scheduled for January 2024, emphasizing Happy Furniture’s move to British Columbia’s sustainable and high-quality softwood products.
