FII China and The Canadian Trade Office in Wuhan collaboratively organized a “Modern Wood Frame Construction Technology Round table” and a New Year stakeholder Appreciation Reception in Wuhan on March 30th, 2015. This is the first time that such a round table took place in Wuhan with the goal of making more inroads for wood frame construction technology into the Hubei construction market.
The Hubei MOHURD Vice-Minister Mr. Xu Wujian, The Wuhan Construction Committee Director of New Technology department Mr. Xu Haiqing, and 15 representatives from major developer and designer firms attended the round table. Consul and senior trade commissioner Mr. Jason Walsh from the Consulate General of Canada in Shanghai, and consulate and Wuhan trade office staff were also in attendance of the event.
FII China’s technical marketing Director Benjamin Zhuang and Structural Engineer Reed Kelterborn conducted presentations that gave an overview of Canadian Wood Frame construction technology, its design features, its development and applications in China and its achievements in foreign countries.
The guests were highly engaged during the two hours round table, and numerous questions with regards to codes and standards, fire safety, government policy, moisture control among others were posed during the Q and A session, that ran overtime into the evening reception.
Subsequent meetings with the Wuhan planning Bureau, the Hubei MOHURD attended by Minister Yin, the Wuhan Construction Committee, as well as the Rui’an group were organized to deepen discussions and seek opportunities for cooperation.
Hubei is FII China’s next strategic development region with respect to Government Relations and Business Development, FII China will hereafter work closely with local government departments and the Canadian Trade Office in Wuhan, as well as prospective developers to explore wood frame building solutions catered towards Hubei’s construction needs.
