The U.S. WoodWorks team provided valuable support and advice in the designing of Franklin Elementary School, the first all-wood school in West Virginia. Originally intended to be a concrete or steel structure, the school will be built instead with a combination of wood frame and cross-laminated timber (CLT). The change was based on the WoodWorks team demonstrating the cost and environmental benefits of using wood while maintaining functionality and design. The school district and contractor consider the project to be “cutting edge” and it is likely to influence other school construction in the region.
