The sleek, contemporary exterior of the Stella project in Marina del Rey, California, gives little indication of the wood framing inside. Featuring five storeys of wood on a one-storey concrete podium, the Stella may be the future of mid-rise construction in the U.S. The developer’s own cost analysis, supported by the U.S. WoodWorks program, showed that considerable savings could be made by switching to wood. By reducing costs, the developer was able to add a number of luxury features to the complex, which added to the overall sales values.
