B.C. Forest Sector & Markets

Forestry in British Columbia is big business. More than 40% of the province’s regional economies are based on forestry activities, supporting 173,000 jobs in more than 7,300 businesses. Several of the world’s largest forestry companies are headquartered in B.C. and the province is the world’s largest supplier of softwood lumber to world markets.
Impressively, all of this activity is fully sustainable. B.C. has some of the toughest environmental laws in the world designed to manage the Province’s forests for future generations.
In B.C., working in forestry is more than a job – it is a way of life. In support of this, the B.C. government has introduced “Wood First”, a comprehensive program to expand the use of wood in building construction.
