VICTORIA - FII has released its annual call for proposals to boost demand for B.C. wood products in Asia-Pacific and other key markets. Forests and Range Minister Pat Bell announced today.

FII is using Mongolia, a country with a climate similar to B.C., as a test country for affordable wood-frame housing that could then be marketed to other developing economies around the world. Recently the first two demonstration homes were opened in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar.
November 17, 2008: B.C. WOOD TRUSS ROOFING TECHNOLOGY SUCCESSFUL IN CHINA
SHANGHAI, CHINA – B.C. forest products and Canadian wood truss technology have experienced a breakthrough with three commercial projects providing new roofs to 38 apartment buildings in Shanghai, Forests and Range Minister Pat Bell announced while visiting a project site in the Putuo district.

QINGCHUAN, CHINA – B.C. wood products will be used in “Vancouver Village,” a new project to develop rural housing in an area of China that is recovering from heavy earthquake damage, Forests and Range Minister Pat Bell announced today while on a trade mission to China.

DUJIANGYAN, CHINA – Construction has started on an earthquake-resistant school using B.C. lumber that could soon be a model for institutions and residential buildings across China, Forests and Range Minister Pat Bell announced today as he visited the school’s construction site while on a trade mission to China.

MIANYANG, CHINA – Forests and Range Minister Pat Bell has officially signed agreements with officials from Mianyang Municipality and Beichuan County on behalf of British Columbia to support the reconstruction of community facilities devastated by the May 2008 earthquake.

VICTORIA – The B.C. government is recruiting a team of architects and construction managers to send to China to help reconstruct areas in Wenchuan province devastated by a major earthquake earlier this year, Forests and Range Minister Pat Bell and Minister responsible for the Asia-Pacific Initiative Ida Chong have announced.
June 13, 2008: Canada, B.C. send China $8 million for recovery, reconstruction
VANCOUVER – FII is managing the delivery of $8 million in immediate relief housing and longer-term reconstruction to help survivors of the recent earthquake in China, Premier Gordon Campbell and the Hon. Garry Lunn, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources have announced.

KELOWNA - Premier Campbell has announced $11.35 million through Forestry Innovation Investment to promote B.C. wood products by opening up new markets for the Coast and Interior, developing the value-added sector, and dealing with mountain pine beetle challenges.
